  1. Marauders

The game releases Monday, October 3 into Early Access
Some have said it's Tarkov in space. Well...this is somewhat true except nowhere NEAR as in-depth and advanced. At the moment, there are no super-specific in-depth mechanics that Tarkov contains (i.e. ammunition types), so it's a much more casualized version of the Tarkov "raid" experience. There are space battles and the typical ADS battles in most first person shooters, though you want to grab loot and complete quests and level up in order to get more good things. I've had a ton of fun and looking forward to the full release.

    Steam Description:
Marauders is a tactical first-person multiplayer looter shooter set in a sci-fi universe. As a space pirate, work solo, or in a squad of up to 3 other players to navigate a hostile battleground, hunt for loot, craft new weapons and gear, and salvage what you’ll need to survive.
    System Requirements:
    MINIMUM:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel Core i5-4570, 3.2 GHz or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X, 3.4 GHz
    Memory: 12 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760, 2 GB or AMD Radeon R9 280, 3 GB
    Network: Broadband Internet connection
Additional Notes: Be advised! Marauders is still in development, so those requirements are subject to change before the release!
    RECOMMENDED:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel Core i5-8400, 2.8 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 3.6 GHz
    Memory: 12 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, 8 GB
    Network: Broadband Internet connection

  2. World War 3

World War 3 is certainly one of my favorite games. It's got the best of both worlds - hardcore, tactical shooter elements sprinkled with casual style gameplay. This has got to be some of the best gunplay in an arena shooter I've ever played.
    I'm probably just a fanboy.
    Steam Description:
World War 3 is a tactical online multiplayer FPS where the world is your battleground. Outgun the enemy in thrilling, team-based skirmishes with a huge arsenal of weapons, vehicles, gadgets, and drones at your disposal.

  3. Road to Vostok (Demo Available)

This project looks incredible. And one of the best things about it is that it really hits the market right - there are hardly ANY hardcore first person shooters that are only for solo gamers. The last big one was STALKER and that was released years ago - so this is a great idea for this dev. I'm REALLY looking forward to the demo at the end of this month - check it out on Steam when you can.

  5. Beyond the Wire

For a world war 1 game, it's actually pretty fun. The player count is the worst part about it, in my opinion, but they provide a hardcore element to it to make it not as "arcadey" as BF1 but also it's not a slog just to get to the action. FREE WEEKEND WITH THE 1.0 RELEASE!

    Steam Description:
Set in the muddy trenches of WW1, Beyond The Wire is a 50v50 multiplayer FPS that immerses players in the desperate & brutal circumstances of the Great War. Featuring an arsenal of historic weapons, ten massive maps, ten playable factions, era-specific tanks, & a brutal melee combat system.

    SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
    MINIMUM:

  6. VEIN (New Zombie Survival Demo)

Vein is currently a free demo that you can download and play. A couple previous developers from the game Dead Matter decided to throw their hat into the zombie survival ring and create their own game. Right now, there's not a lot we know about it, other than it's going to be a multiplayer first person survival game where you can loot almost everything for something you need to survive. The demo is barebones now but wow - it could be something special. Keep your eye on this one and expect this page to be updated.

  7. Hunt: Showdown

    HOW TO ACTIVATE "REALISM MODE"
    Directions here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2224696996&searchtext=hide+hud

Hunt: Showdowns is honestly one of my favorite games - it's especially my favorite genre. The intense PvPvE is something not a lot of games offer. I enjoy it a bit more than tarkov because it doesn't have the extra-grindy quests and RPG statistics you're trying to level up. Instead, the game offers a pretty balanced pvp experience with an incredible sound design. If there were a more modern shooter with mechanics like this, I'd play that all the time - though, I know the balancing would be a bit harder. The game just updated to the 1.9 build that comes with a lot of changes linked here: https://www.huntshowdown.com/news/hunt-showdown-update-19
    Steam Description:
Hunt: Showdown is a thrilling, high-stakes PvPvE first-person shooter. Take down nightmarish monsters, as you compete for the bounties that will bring you glory, gear, and gold in this unforgiving – and unforgettable - online multiplayer experience.

  9. Sector's Edge

A simple free game that can be somewhat enjoyable in your free time. It's got building and a completely destructible environment. Most importantly, it's free. I don't play it much, but anytime I have, it felt like a pretty good game with some heavy recoil and non-stop action.
    Steam Description:
Sector's Edge is an indie free-to-play first person shooter with a completely destructible environment. It combines the fast-paced action and skill-based nature of Battlefield with the sandbox destruction of Ace of Spades.

  10. Contract Wars Client

Contract Wars was originally a browser game. This was one of the predecessors to Escape from Tarkov. There are still some active players, but very few. However, you can still play. And even though it’s a browser game, it’s actually pretty cool! You’ll have to create a profile, verify your email, and download and install the client…then find some games, of course.

  11. Rooftops 2 (Call of Duty 4 Mod)

This is a mod for the original Call of Duty 4 (2007) that adds a completely unique and alternate single-player campaign. Using custom assets from several games in the Call of Duty franchise, the modder, SPi, took the time to make a 2 hour story-driven campaign. It took him about 9 years to finish it completely. And it's certainly a quality campaign for someone doing nearly everything themselves! 10/10 score from me.

  13. Deadside

One of the best things about Deadside is it's environment. A gorgeous environment with a massive - MASSIVE - world. The game offers a first person and third person shooter with some lite survival mechanics - these being eating, drinking, and health. The game is currently in early access and despite it's giant size, it doesn't offer any vehicles yet, though those are coming. You can hop onto a server of around 50 players and shoot, loot, gather materials, and build your own custom base. As of now, you can't do anything like cut down trees for this base, so anything you want to add you've got to explore the world to find. One good thing about this game is that it's NOT a zombie shooter - the enemy AI are "scavs." The WORST part about the game, unfortunately, is the gunplay. I'm not a huge fan - but the game is gorgeous enough to keep me coming back occasionally.
    Steam Description:
Deadside is a hardcore multiplayer shooter with survival elements. Post-Apocalypse, PvP, PvE, open world, realistic weapons, craft, base building

  15. BF3 Reality Mod (Venice Unleashed)

    Reality Mod Discord: https://discord.gg/realitymod

This is Venice Unleashed, the platform used to play Battlefield 3: Reality Mod. If you want to know what the Reality Mod is, well..it's Project Reality 2 but on an updated platform. The game aims to provide a milsim-lite experience (a bit more casual than squad) with large, custom battlefields modified from the original BF3 maps. It's going to be available to the public July 17 2022 into a very early build but will continue to be modified and upgraded over the coming months. It aims to have a large-scale battle of 100+ players with vehicles, airstrikes, and good ole fashioned infantry. Get your gaming on.
Here's the Reality Mod Roadmap/Website, but it runs on Venice Unleashed: https://bf3reality.com

  16. Hell Let Loose

Hell Let Loose just dropped their latest update title "Falling Dark" and this brings some incredible new gameplay to the field. The thing I love about Hell Let Loose is the atmosphere it brings. It's not the MOST realistic experience, nor is it a real milsim, but the environment alone sucks you into the battlefield to feel like you're actually there. Despite only having World War 2 weapons, this is one of my favorite games and they continue to make it even better. Night maps bring a whole new dynamic that I feel makes those LARGE, OPEN maps actually enjoyable.

  18. Killing Floor 2

I haven't played much of this, but I know 2 things. 1. There's a lot of gore and 2. It's got some sexy looking reload animations. The game is a wave survival game where you take out mutants and clones called "Zeds" in waves where between waves you can purchase some new equipment, weapons, armor, etc. This year, they released an updated titled "Tidal Terror" with a bunch of new goodies/DLCs. I've heard it's better as co-op and not a lone ranger...but most things are.

    EPIC GAMES Description:
In KILLING FLOOR 2, players descend into continental Europe after it has been overrun by horrific, murderous clones called Zeds that were created by rogue elements of the Horzine Corporation. 6-player Co-Op & 12-player VS Zed-slaughtering mayhem.

  19. Chernobylite

Chernobylite is somewhat nostalgic for me. I haven't played the STALKER games (at least not yet) but I've heard these are very similar. What I HAVE played, though, is the "All Ghillied Up" and "One Shot One Kill" missions of CoD4 and this is reminiscent of that. Not that the gameplay is similar, by any means, but being in the Chernobyl/Pripyat area reminds me of that time. What's cool about this game is that the team over at the Farm51 ACTUALLY WENT to some of these locations and did 3D scans in order to get an accurate portrayal of the environment. I haven't progressed the story too far, but it's nice because it comes with some "Free Roam" maps that you can just hop in and explore (which is what I did in the video below). Graphics for me are stunning, and I know they're likely even better with all the RTX fancy graphics (I do not have an RTX card so only an assumption).
    Steam Description:
Chernobylite is a science-fiction survival horror RPG. Set in the hyper-realistic, 3D-scanned wasteland of Chernobyl’s Exclusion Zone, explore a non-linear storyline in your search to uncover the truth of your tortured past.

  20. Battlebit: Remastered

Battlebit is not what you'd expect it to be upon first look. The game surprised me with how good it is. HUGE battlefields with teamwork-oriented classes that offers loads of customization. At the writing of this, they're undergoing numerous playtests in order to prepare for the release, which is expected to be in 2022. During the most recent playtest (7/9/22), I had trouble getting into a lobby because they were so packed full of players (I would guess maybe 20-30 servers full). Here's the crazy part - the servers can host up to 256 players. I love that the use of this art style allows for crazy things like that while not overloading the server or being difficult to run on your PC. If you want updated with their stuff and when the next playtest is going to be, I'll link the discord here and click the More Info button to check the game out. From what I know, the game will be $15 dollars upon the release (though this has been changed from 20 previously)

  21. Insurgency: Sandstorm

Insurgency: Sandstorm is a hardcore tactical shooter that brings the perfect balance between hardcore realism and casual movements. The game offers several different pvp game modes but also offers co-op game modes for those who prefer to fight with a team against AI enemies. And above everything else, the sound design is excellent. Click on "More Info" to grab the game and hop into an intense FPS experience.

  22. Ready or Not

Ready or Not is definitely the most immersive and intense game that I've played. This game can get really, really difficult. With every update, they add loads of content and tweak the AI to find that "just right" area that makes each map slightly beatable, but you're going to die in this game...a lot. Unfortunately, the game is only Co-op at the moment, but they previously had PvP implemented prior to their release on steam. Hopefully that can make a comeback, but we'll see. Highly recommend if you like that slower-paced, danger-around-every-corner style of play.

  23. Ground Branch

This hardcore tactical shooter offers a simple yet satisfying first person shooter experience. Developed by one of the ORIGINAL Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon devs, this game aims to be one of the most realistic experiences on the market. Smooth gunplay, realistic mechanics, and a lot of fun. Whether it's single player, pvp, or pvE, this game is certainly an asset in the tactical shooter toolbox.  It's currently early access, so expect some bugs and such, but mod support is coming in the next update AND each update makes the game better and better. Recommended for solo gamers and tactical LARPers

  24. GTFO

Recently, I picked up the game GTFO. If you want a difficult game - this is it. The enemies are deadly, but what really is enjoyable/terrifying is the environment. You never know what lurks around the corner, the ambient sounds bring about a fear of the unknown that provokes the thought "what kind of monster was that?" It can be played alone with bots, but they seem to be a little bit ditsy. I tried 2 player co-op, but that didn't last long. I'd recommend 4 players with good communication and someone that understands what's going on.

    Good luck out there, prisoner.

  25. H1 Mod for Modern Warfare Remastered

This mod is attempting to revive the Modern Warfare Remastered PVP scene. Though you have to own the game, it allows for a fairly simple install to give you that feeling you had back in 2007 when you were pwning noobs until 2AM and disparaging a random gamer's mother. They've got the install instructions on the site (which this links to) so you can either set up your own server or play on others with custom rules. And you can unlock everything. Have fun!
